Winter Child

from The Stone Heart EP by Obsidian Tongue

lyrics

O Silent snowclad sanctuary
My painted world, my framed abode
How soon must I retreat even further North
For thy winds to still mask the calls from summer’s grove?
This beguiling sunsong sneaking in
Is but a ghost town’s infernal din
And nary one ear have I to lend
Nor thought of return to portend
For there the reaping never ends
And my soul, it is a lonely one
A lonely soul-serving winter son
And from great distance, great work is done
So, silent snowclad place,
Upon us lies the dream world’s fate
So raise thy howl until the past is erased!
Let time erode now
Let the blue moon glow
Let this great winter never end

Foreign lights on the backs of our fatal winds
Intruders achieving the impossible
Lights become faces and winds become voices
A golden panorama wraps around me
And I crumble from the surge of memory
The life I once lived
With motion & laugther & burdens accepted in stride together
But I was incompatible and every step was pain

Ascension or abandonment
Who will judge?
I relinquished the self to protect a higher vision
A cult of one projecting a grand infinity through the snow
This solar choir echoes a different tale
Their eyes pour steady
But their cadence never falters
As they beg their weakest to come back

One outstretched arm bathed in light
The other moonlit & cold
Let my choice ring true
